Mr, Daniel Kane, Clara

MT 26/02/1910

On Wednesday, the 16th instant, Clara laid to rest her oldest and most honoured inhabitant to rest in the cemetery of the Franciscan Monastery. Mr. Daniel Kane late of Kilmucklin, at the grand old age of 89 years, at length went to his reward.

He had been ailing for only a short time previously, and many of his friends had hoped, considering the life-long strength and soundness of his constitution, that he would rally again after a little while, but all in vain. Providence was calling him home, and gently day by day he sank in spite of all that loving care could do.

The Parish Priest, the Very Rev M Bracken was most assiduous in his attentions to him, and so, fortified and consoled by the Divine Sacraments of Holy Church, that Church to which during his long life Mr. Kane had ever been so lovingly attached, he peacefully and happily departed this life on Monday night the 14th inst, at the residence of his son-in-law, Mr. M McGlynn, Church Street, Clara.

Mr. Kane was born in 1821 at Ballinacarra, the old home of the Kanes, in the parish of Clara. He belonged to one of the oldest and most respectable families in this Part of the King’s County .

His nephew, the late Monsignor Murphy, of Dublin Diocese, was Rector of the Irish College, at Rome, and another was Canon Walter Murphy, P P, of St. Kevin’s Dublin.
